What
Is Client-Server Networking?
INTRODUCTION
Client-server
networking revolves around a server or servers that centrally
control resources like user profiles, printers and shared files.
THE
PLUSSES
A
client-server network is typically far more secure than a peer
to peer network, central backups are much easier to implement,
and network wide changes can often be implemented on all workstations
from the server.
THE
MINUSES
A
secure client-server network relies on a secure network operating
system like Windows NT or Novell Netware, both of which are expensive.
Linux can also be used as a network operating system, and best
of all, it is free, but Linux is far from being the most user-friendly
choice.
